Seemingly calm and collected Hideo has a lot of hidden insecurities. From grades to appearance to hobbies, he tries to hide his tendency to be an emotional, nervous wreck. Around strangers and peers he plays the ‘general punk with shit grades’ role to cover the fact that he’s scared of trying his hardest and not being good enough; but upon climbing the ladder of friendship, Hideo will start top open up and show his true self, mostly in a request for support and guidance. This makes him wary of betrayal and hesitant to get all buddy-buddy with others. His personality is mostly driven by the fear of failure and disappointment, but he plays it off by avoiding talk about himself.

Bio:
Hideo, being the first born, was his mother’s favourite. She fought hard to get him into the best schools, generally more concerned with being able to brag about it rather than her kid’s education and putting him into a school more suitable for his intelligence. Hide struggled. In elementary it was sufferable, his homework completed to the best of his ability, but as he neared high school and the inevitable examinations, his efforts fell short to the school’s and his mother’s expectations, plummeting Hide into a cycle of self pity, frustration, and stress. All of the exams he did were for top tier schools, ones his mother hoped he would attend, and he fails each and every, leaving no plan for the following year. In that time, Hide picks up hobbies he didn’t have time for while studying things that didn’t make any sense, like reading manga and playing handheld console games, and after unnecessary snooping in his sister’s room he comes across BL mags and is enraptured, starting his fascination with the good, bad, and ugly of boys’ love. He gets a job to be able to support buying a DS + monthly manga magazines. He also makes his ‘yankee transformation’ to lessen potentially bullying for being older than everyone else in his grade.

tl;dr hide’s mom thinks he’s smarter than he really is so he gets into high school a year late and during the gap he turns into a fudanshi piece of junk.
